Samuel & Frances Belzberg Family Exhibit Space Vancouver Central Library, Level 9 350 West Georgia Street16 Oct '19 to 15 Dec '19 @ 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Full Circle First Nations Performance and the Vancouver Public Library are pleased to co-host the cross-Canada touring art and film installation pîkiskwe-speak: An Invitation to Conversations in Reconciliation from October 16-December 15, 2019. The art installation will be exhibited in the Samuel & Frances Belzberg Family Exhibit Space at Vancouver Central Library.

This collaborative arts project features the dramatic mixed-media triptych, Lost My Talk, and other artwork by Alberta-based Indigenous artist, Lana Whiskeyjack, and the award-winning documentary film, Lana Gets Her Talk, by Beth Wishart MacKenzie.

Artist Lana Whiskeyjack and filmmaker Beth Wishart MacKenzie will travel to Vancouver to launch pîkiskwe-speakon Wednesday, October 16, from 6:30 – 9:00 pm in the Montalbano Family Theatre at Vancouver Central Library. After a reception with the artists there will be a special screening of Lana Gets Her Talk followed by a community Conversation in Reconciliation facilitated by Elder Xwechtaal Dennis Joseph. The program will also include music by Indigenous artist, Norine Braun.

In this “Time of Reconciliation”, the art and film installation pîkiskwe-speak explores the intergenerational wounding of Canada’s Indian Residential School system and the power of art and Indigenous pathways to heal the wounding. With this touring installation, the artists seek to engage communities across Canada in Conversations of Reconciliation through ART, conversations aimed at writing a new chapter, painting a new vision, and creating a new protocol for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous relations in Canada.

A Canada Council for the Arts Communiqué explains that pîkiskwe-speak “… is one of 200 exceptional projects funded through the Canada Council for the Arts’ New Chapter Program (commemorating Canada’s 150th). With this $35 million investment, the Council supports the creation and sharing of the arts in communities across Canada.”

The Vancouver Installation, the final stop of the tour, is also supported by the Edmonton Arts Council and the City of Edmonton.
