Kickstart’s 21st Anniversary Celebration

The CULTCH26 Apr '19 @ 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM

Kickstart Disability Arts and Culture celebrates its 21st year of supporting and promoting artists who identify as living with a disability with a very special concert event headlined by the incomparable singer Gaelynn Lea, a featured performance by inspirational humourist, David Roche, and a presentation by talented young painter, Mujtaba Saloojee. Tickets are on sale now for this rare evening of entertainment, passion, and illumination.

Gaelynn Lea is a classically trained violinist and singer-songwriter who’s been bewitching scores of fans with her singular voice, haunting original songs and experimental takes on traditional fiddle music. She is making real waves on the music scene, performing at some of the continent’s most prestigious venues, touring to festivals around the world, and was the winner of NPR Music’s 2016 Tiny Desk Contest.

David Roche has transformed the challenges and gifts of living with a facial difference into a compelling message full of spirit, warmth, wit and authenticity that uplifts and delights audiences around the world. The story of his heroic journey from shame to strength has inspired standing ovations from the White House and Kennedy Center to Olympics Arts Festivals, from New Zealand to Moscow, London to Sydney, and across Canada and the US.

Self-taught painter, Mujtaba Saloojee, is re-learning how to make art after a spinal injury, and both his story and work are empowering, fascinating, and inspirational.

This special evening includes a silent auction with original art, jewelry, experiences, and gift baskets. Both regular and VIP tickets are available. The VIP tickets include early entry to the venues, tickets to the show, pre-show cocktails with the artists, and a preview of the items to be auctioned. This event will be ASL interpreted, and the Cultch is wheelchair accessible.
