The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage06 Sep '18 to 07 Oct '18 @ 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM
The Arts Club’s 2018–2019 season, the first programmed by Artistic Director Ashlie Corcoran, opens next month with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. This critically acclaimed play based on the best-selling novel won four major awards, including the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play. It is playing September 6–October 7 at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

The play follows Christopher Boone (Daniel Doheny, of Netflix’s Alex Strangelove), a 15-year-old boy with a unique perspective. He is incredibly talented at math, but never ventures beyond his street and strongly distrusts strangers. When his neighbour’s dog is killed, Christopher challenges his own barriers to uncover the truth about the dog, his family, and himself. Audience members have the opportunity to peek inside his mind as this incomparable show tests the boundaries of imagination and physical space.

Artistic Director Ashlie Corcoran will direct this show as her Arts Club debut. Corcoran said, “The script calls for a fresh blend of theatricality—from intricate feats of technical design to low-tech corporeal storytelling by the actors. This combination creates theatrical magic, and is a form of theatre that I believe our audiences will delight in. I am thrilled by the talent of our creative team and cast, and together we are thrilled to jump into the creation of this piece.”

An inclusive experience designed to welcome patrons of all ages and sensitivities, a relaxed performance contains modifications to the conventions of traditional theatre to maximize the comfort of attendees. Sound and lighting cues are adjusted to be more subdued, and the audience is welcome to move around and make noise. The relaxed performance for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will be on September 30, with tickets offered at a discounted rate.
