THE PIANO TEACHER

Surrey Arts Centre & other locations04 Oct '18 to 06 Nov '18 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Following a critically acclaimed run in the spring of 2017, The Piano Teacher returns as part of the Arts Club on Tour’s 2018–2019 season. Written by Vancouver playwrightDorothy Dittrich, The Piano Teacher was developed through the Arts Club’s Silver Commissions Project. It is the 11th work produced since the new play development program was established in 2006.

The Piano Teacher follows Erin (Megan Leitch), a concert pianist who hasn’t touched a piano since her husband died. As Elaine (Caitriona Murphy), a piano teacher, gently reacquaints Erin with her instrument, other life changes follow. A simple update to Erin’s home, for instance, brings the unexpected companionship of a contractor, Tom (Kamyar Pazandeh).

About this second production, Dittrich said, “It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to come back to the play after time away. Now we have this beautiful opportunity to return to the story, to explore and try things that time and distance have allowed us to ruminate on, wonder about, and sometimes discover after the fact. Speaking for myself, I will have a chance to revisit certain moments in the writing, to rework and refine. What I also find exciting and beautiful is that the team gets to return together to do the same play from a new place.”
