Forever Magical, Finland

Darpan News Desk, 23 Jan, 2018
  • Forever Magical, Finland

Long renowned for its natural beauty, Finland is the perfect complement for couples and honeymooners alike.

Whether you are a newlywed or newly engaged, the Land of the Midnight Sun redefines nuptial romance. With its breathtaking scenery and world-class accommodations, this “Jewel of the North” reimagines the spirit of romance in truly unique ways.

From the hush of winter’s solitude to the magic of a midsummer solstice, Finland is as diverse as it is beautiful. For many Finnish couples, escaping to nature is the perfect way to relax and celebrate a new life together. Adventurous honeymooners can enjoy island hopping across Finland’s archipelago, relaxing beneath the Northern Lights in the Arctic twilight or travelling off the beaten path to more remote “Do Not Disturb” destinations.

If the cityscape is more your style, why not tie the knot at Temppeliaukio; the Helsinki church embedded directly in solid rock. For the more traditional, the Suomenlinna Church dates back several hundred years as a former Russian garrison.

Ice Chapel at Snow Village

For a truly memorable wedding, why not exchange your vows in a chapel constructed entirely of ice and snow? Many ice chapels offer musical accompaniment and are capable of accommodating up to 60 guests.

Suomenlinna Church

The construction of the Suomenlinna Church dates back to the late 18th century, making it one of the oldest churches in Finland. Originally intended to serve as a base for the Russian garrison, the church’s history is filled with memories of battles fought. Suomenlinna Church is on Suomenlinna Island, a ferry ride away from central Helsinki. It can accommodate even the largest of wedding parties with a 400 person seating capacity.

Archipelago National Park

Finland is home to the largest archipelago in the world. With over 70,000 individual islands to explore, endless adventures and memories await. Along the way, historical churches, manors and lighthouses spin their own romantic tales and beckon the attention of passer-by travellers.

Husky Safari

Tour the Arctic like never before. You and a loved one can experience travelling off the beaten path with a tailored safari complete with tour guide and eight wagging tales. For the particularly adventurous sort, step up to the chance to be a musher and control your own team of dogs across the Lappish countryside.

Helsinki’s Temppeliaukio (Rock Church)

For those partial to warmer temperatures, the Rock Church is both beautiful and extremely unique. Excavated directly into solid rock, the Temppeliaukio is covered with a copper-lined dome which allows both sunlight and water to trickle in along its rocky walls. Anticipating lots of guests? No problem, the Rock Church can easily accommodate up to 750 people.

Autumn in Lapland

Autumn is the season known for ‘ruska’, when the autumnal reds, browns and yellows are especially beautiful on the fells of Lapland. It is also a popular time for trekking – so pack your bags and rejoice each others company outdoors. Every now and then take a little brake, sip some hot chocolate and enjoy a scenery that makes all that walking worth it.
