Perm Jawanada is the Vice President of Partner Retail Sales at Rogers Communications

What does being a woman mean to you?

Being strong, being the glue in a family who loves, forgives, lets go, and perseveres while looking out for and supporting others along the way. My definition of a woman is a courageous and caring, a great role model, who protects her own and supports those around her in achieving their goals and dreams, while staying true to her beliefs and values.

What has been your biggest achievement, personally and professionally, as a woman?

Firstly, being the mother of my two amazing children, Jessica and Joshua, bring me so much joy and pride as I have watched them grow into these amazing, driven, successful and caring adults. I know they will do great things!

In terms of my professional life, I was so proud to become the first South Asian woman Vice President at Rogers, as well as the first Rogers VP to do a national role based in BC. This was indicative of both Rogers’ commitment to moving women into leadership positions and providing greater autonomy for our regional teams to make decisions that best support local business development, sponsorships, network plans and community investments.

What project are you working on right now?

I am so excited to be involved with the Ted Rogers Community Grants. From the selection process, to being able to hand out community grants to deserving organizations that support youth and education, it gives me the opportunity to really be able to see the difference these grants are making in the lives of young people.

It’s so inspiring to go to the secondary schools in the community where I grew up (Surrey) to talk to young children about things like “they can be anything they want to be.” They have so many questions and are so excited when I tell them anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

What is your success mantra?

Work hard, give it your all and make a difference! Put your hand up for extra projects, programs or where people need support, and be known as someone who can add value and is a strong collaborator. Treat others like you want to be treated, build great relationship, be true to your values, smile and take the time to spend great quality time with those that are important to you.
