SmileTown Dentistry (www.smiletowndentistry.com) is like Playland for kids. Right from their calming beach-themed North Delta/Surrey office to the captivating jungle-themed Burnaby location with the children’s Jungle Theatre, to the underwater-themed Langley oasis, this lower mainland-based dental group, has something for every child and parent.
“Dental visits can often be somewhat stressful for younger patients. We wanted to build offices which would help to alleviate the anxiety and stress that children and their parents may have when coming to see the dentist,” explains Dr. Karim Kanani (B.Sc., M.Sc., M.BS., DMD), who co-founded the new, child-friendly dental clinics with Dr. Diya Chadha (BDS, DMD, FRCD(C)). Both Dr. Kanani and Dr. Chadha completed additional training in treating children and have each obtained a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry.
The doctors have created a one of a kind, very fun and unique environment to make patients as well as their parents comfortable – filled with televisions, gaming stations, and fun characters throughout the office. “We have a relaxing parent lounge near the treatment rooms for parents to be able to rest yet be able to still see their children get treatment,” adds Dr. Kanani. “The feedback from the South Asian community has been tremendous.”
SmileTown Dentistry’s main focus is to treat children with the utmost care and compassion in a professional environment, while immersing them with an experience that they would not normally feel at a dental office. “We both thrive on the model of taking care of children as if they were our own. We want all children and parents to be treated with respect and having amemorable patient experience is our number one priority,” says Dr. Chadha passionately. Both doctors advise parents to take their child to the dentist at an early age.
“Children need to get comfortable in the dental environment as early as possible. This is also a great opportunity for parents to get valuable information from the dentist on how to take care of their child’s oral health and to prevent early childhood decay; the most common chronic disease in children today. Parents know their children best and if you think something looks unusual, we recommend coming in to see us,” suggests Dr. Chadha, further encouraging parents to bring in their infants for a complimentary educational visit to discuss nursing habits and oral cleansing techniques.
Ensuring maximum care and treatment, SmileTown’s offices in Burnaby, North Delta, and Langley aim to minimize any barriers which may limit access to care. This includes having appointments readily available, short or no waitlists, and affordable care.
The clinic follows the BC Dental Fee Guide (for minimum suggested rates) and accepts most insurances. “As a courtesy to our patients, we are happy to verify your insurance coverage to reduce your out of pocket expense,” adds Dr. Kanani.
Dr. Kanani and Dr. Chadha are very passionate about treating children and want them to have a fun and enjoyable experience beyond their expectations.
“Children should not be scared to visit the dentist – that is what we are striving for at SmileTown. Our goal is to have children wanting to come back, over and over again to see us. Good oral hygiene habits are established early. We are here for the South Asian community and are looking forward to contributing to the community in as many ways as we can,” they say in conclusion.
SmileTown Dentistry has a fully trained multilingual staff that can communicate in English, Spanish, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu. Consultations for children are complimentary. Please contact the office location most convenient for you to set up an appointment.
