  • Passion, Service, Vision: Dr.Mona Sandhu

The eyes are by far our most important sense organs. We perceive up to 80% of all impressions by means of our sight! That’s exactly why your eyes deserve only the best when it comes to vision care! At Clayton Heights Optometry, Dr. Mona Sandhu and her team understand the importance of preventative eye health and work hard to continually update their techniques and technology to help patients maintain healthy eyes.

Clayton Heights Optometry pride themselves in providing a unique eye health care experience. The team really takes their time with patients through the whole process, from pre-testing to exams to discussing personalized eyewear needs. Evidently, the team’s passion for eye health comes from their fearless leader, Dr. Mona Sandhu. Dr. Sandhu’s passion isn’t just constrained to her profession. The driven optometrist gives back to the community through Project Eyecare. With the support of NightShift Street Ministries,

Dr. Sandhu and her staff, accompanied by other eye doctors who volunteer their services and time, provide free vision and eye health screening and glasses to homeless or low income community members.

Reflecting on her career path, Dr. Sandhu shares, “I always knew I wanted to serve in the healthcare field. The more I researched and came to appreciate what an important role optometrists play in maintaining an individual’s health, and how intriguing and complicated the eyes and visual system are, I was hooked.” For the dedicated professional, the most rewarding part of her profession is being able to help make someone feel better through improved vision.

Given the importance of maintaining good eye health, Dr. Sandhu breaks four common myths when it comes to vision care:

1.“I can see well so I do not need regular eye exams.”

So false! Checking your vision is only one part of the eye exam. You may have underlying and undetected ocular health issues that can impact your vision if left untreated. Patients may even develop advanced eye disease that could have been easily treatable earlier. Don’t put off an eye exam!

2.“My child is doing poorly in school so they must have ADHD or a learning disability.”

This could be a visually related issue. Your child may have an oculomotor imbalance, have difficulty coordinating their eye movements, or have a visual processing disorder in which there is an impairment in how the brain is processing the visual information. Such conditions make learning and reading much more challenging. Luckily, these are highly trainable by an optometrist qualified in vision therapy, like Clayton Heights Optometry’s specialty trained associate, Dr. Gerald Choi.

3.“Wearing glasses will make my eyes worse.”

Wearing glasses will not make your eyes worse if you are wearing the correct prescription and properly fitted lenses. Glasses are prescribed to provide clear and comfortable vision. Alternatively, not wearing your glasses as prescribed can lead to headaches, eye strain and neck problems.

Undoubtedly, Dr. Sandhu and her team at Clayton Heights Optometry are fully equipped with welcoming and modern facilities, leading technologies, and diligent professionals to provide high-quality care for your eyes. Your eyes are at work from the moment you wake up to the moment you put them at rest when you sleep. As you soak in the wonders of the world through your hardworking eyes, be sure to reward them at Clayton Heights Optometry!
