Patel has always been heavily involved in public speaking and communication, which became his way of defining himself, according to a University statement.

In his new role, Verma will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and supervising State Department operations such as foreign assistance. Verma previously served as US Ambassador to India (2015-17) during the Obama Administration, becoming the first person of Indian descent to hold that position.

With this appointment, Minneapolis native Chaudhary becomes the first Indian-American to become part of one of the top civilian leadership positions in the Pentagon.
