Great Minds at TEDx Vancouver 2014

24 Oct, 2014
It was a conglomeration of great minds and great speakers on October 18th at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Popular TV host Riaz Meghji hosted one of the most anticipated events of the year that featured inspirational leaders, game-changers and thought-provokers with the theme Tilt. The speaker lineup to the event included:

Dr. Terry Pearson, a professor, medical industry entrepreneur, and disease diagnosis specialist whose revolutionary approach of capturing more personalized medical data could alter the face of medicine in the very near future.

Jeff Mudgett, former lawyer and business entrepreneur who put his career aside to seek the truth about a deep, dark family secret that put him in direct ancestral line to perhaps one of the most evil men to ever live, H.H. Holmes.

Jay DeMerit, former captain of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Jessica O’Reilly: Sexologist, author, and PlayboyTV host, Jessica O’Reilly travels the globe promoting more open conversations on our most intimate interactions. Her work continues to challenge conventional beliefs of what it means to be in a healthy relationship.

Treana Peake, creative designer and founder of the luxury fashion line, Obakki and its philanthropic counterpart, the Obakki Foundation.

Victor Chan, founder of Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education, spiritual seeker and traveler, who has 40 years of friendship with the Dalai Lama, has been honoured to host the Dalai Lama three times in Vancouver, and is excited to bring him back once again only days after the TEDxVancouver 2014 event.

Jennifer Gardy & Peter Gregson: When she isn’t hosting The Nature of Things or Daily Planet, Jennifer Gardy spends her days at the forefront of molecular epidemiology, investigating how DNA sequencing can be used to solve public health problems. Peter Gregson is an award-winning cellist and musical pioneer, reinvigorating the classical genre by embracing contemporary culture and technologies. Together they are unconventional explorers of uncharted territory.

Charles Montgomery: An award-winning author and urban experimentalist, Charles Montgomery is the author of Happy City, which the New York Times recommended as essential reading for their city’s new mayor. Working with the BMW Guggenheim Lab, the Museum of Vancouver and other institutions, he creates experiments that challenge us to see our cities—and ourselves—in entirely new ways.

Coleen Christie, CTV News anchor who is using the power of television to try to make the world a better place. For over a decade, she has anchored a nightly television news broadcast, empowering viewers with information and connecting them to issues that matter and to each other.  Coleen brings a life of journalistic experience from behind the camera to the stage to shed light on the consumption of media in the Information Age.

Chip Wilson: Founder of Lululemon Athletica. Over the past three decades, Chip has charted a path of success in rapidly changing realms of business, culture and fashion. Joining a diverse group of speakers, Chip will share his story in a new light with attendees who can expect a thought-provoking program that explores the topics of triumph, change and new outcomes for possibility.
