Popular Indian comedian Kapil Sharma’s newly opened cafe in Surrey, British Columbia was targeted in a shooting incident late night on Wednesday. 

According to reports at least nine shots were fired at the cafe which is located in Newton on the border of Surrey and North Delta. 

Purported videos of the incident went viral on social media, where a man was seen opening fire by shooting nine shots from his pistol. The attacker fired shots from inside a vehicle before fleeing the scene. The attacker has not been identified yet. 

The Surrey Police Service said that the cafe staff was still inside the premises when the gunshots were heard. 

The police also said that they are investigating the incident and that no injuries have been reported from the shooting site. 

The cafe called Kap’s Cafe is Sharma’s debut in the industry and is a joint venture with his wife Ginni Chatrath. Days before the cafe was launched, Chathrath shared glimpses of the cafe’s interiors on her Instagram handle. 

Soon after the launch, congratulatory messages poured in for the couple from friends and colleagues in the industry. 

At the time of writing this report, there was no official statement from Kapil Sharma about the incident. The probe into the incident continues. 

On the work front, Kapil Sharma is hosting season 3 of The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix.
