Aishwarya to skip amfAR Gala for 'Sarbjit'

    Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be skipping the prestigious amfAR Gala at the 69th Cannes Film Festival this year due to commitments towards her forthcoming film “Sarbjit”.
     
    The actress, who is the brand ambassador of L’Oréal Paris, will represent the cosmetic giant at Cannes. 
     
    The Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from May 11 to May 21 and the actress, who will be also completing 15 years of attending the festival in 2016, will walk the red carpet on May 13 and 14. 
     
    The amfAR Gala at Cannes is scheduled for May 19. 
     
    Since "Sarbjit" is slated to release on May 20, Aishwarya will be giving the glamorous charity event a miss, as her commitments towards promoting "Sarbjit" will bring her back to India, read a statement. 
     
    The mother of one will be returning from Cannes immediately after her red carpet appearances to promote the movie and fulfil other professional commitments.
     
    amfAR Gala has been established to raise funds for the fight against AIDS. 
     
    While singer Katy Perry will be headlining the event this year, L’Oréal Paris ambassadors like Karlie Kloss, Natasha Poly, Irina Shayk, Barbara Palvin and Helen Mirren among others will be attending the gala.
     
    "Sarbjit" is based on the life of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer who was convicted of charges of terrorism and spying in Pakistan and was sentenced to death. Aishwarya will be seen essaying the role of Dalbir Kaur Singh in the film while Randeep Hooda plays the title role.
