When Oprah's driver ran over a woman's foot

Darpan News Desk IANS, 27 Oct, 2014 08:18 AM
  • When Oprah's driver ran over a woman's foot
Media mogul Oprah Winfrey was horrified after her driver ran over a woman's foot.

The talk show host jumped into action when the driver accidentally rolled over the toes, narrowly avoiding crushing the ankle, of Lori Geller Bender, a mother of two, who was arriving at a restaurant.

Bender, 44, says that her husband, Kevin, banged the window of the SUV and screamed at the driver to reverse off her toes, which became trapped under one of the vehicle's wheels.

"We were crossing the street to arrive at the restaurant, and there were a lot of cameras. I could see a big crowd of security guards, and as soon as Oprah got into the car, it pulled out from the curb, and a wheel went over my foot. I was wearing heels, my toe was trapped under the wheel and I fell to the ground, hitting my coccyx and my head.

"My husband was banging on the window, shouting for the driver to pull back. I am lucky because if the SUV had gone slightly further forward it would have crushed my whole ankle, Bender told nypost.com.

"The driver reversed off my foot and Oprah jumped out. She couldn’t have been nicer and more gracious. She looked really shocked and asked me if I was okay, and took a good look at my foot. I wasn’t hurt, and I told her I was fine. Oprah said, 'Well, that’s worth a picture,’ and she put her arm around me and we took some photos.

“It has always been on my bucket list to meet Oprah, but I could never have imagined it would be because her driver ran over my toe. Its a crazy story,” she added.

Oprah had earlier dined at the restaurant with her friend Gayle King, to celebrate the end of her “The Life You Want Weekend” in Miami.
