Women Against MS luncheon

Fairmont Hotel23 Nov '17 @ 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Women Against MS luncheon
Influential female leaders like University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine professor Dr. Dessa Sadovnic and President and CEO of Canada’s original discount department store Army & Navy Jacqui Cohen will be among the honored guests at this year’s third annual Women Against Multiple Sclerosis (WAMS) luncheon on November 23.

Jacqui now helms the discount chain founded by her grandfather Samuel Cohen in 1919. She is regarded as a vanguard of Vancouver’s downtown eastside and keeping business at the heart of the communities in which the stores operate.

With the creation of Face the World Foundation in 1999, Jacqui took on another role — generating awareness and dollars that would support our city’s most vulnerable. In its 27-year history, the Foundation has raised more than $17 million for Vancouver’s smaller, lesser-known charitable organizations, transforming the lives of children, women and men in our community. Multiple sclerosis is among the causes the Cohen family holds particularly dear — her father Jack had MS. Jacqui has set an example of business and philanthropic leadership for many, including her daughter, Kasondra, who has gone on to create her own foundation focused on youth, Face the World Today.

Dr. Dessa Sadovnic, has been named as this year’s honoree and is being recognized at the event for her work in the field of multiple sclerosis research. She is a Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics and the Division of Neurology, the Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia and is also the Director of the Canadian Western Pacific Regional Research and Training Center for Multiple Sclerosis.

Tickets are now on sale for the third annual Women Against Multiple Sclerosis (WAMS) luncheon happening at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Through MS research-focused fundraising, WAMS strives to unite women to fight against a disease that universally and disproportionately affects women up to three times more than men.

WAMS is a collective of professional women committed to raising research funds to end MS while participating in exclusive networking opportunities. The luncheon attracts leading professionals and organizations from a wide range of industries in support of the movement to end MS. In addition to supporting one of Canada's leading health charities, the WAMS luncheon provides table purchasers and sponsors high profile exposure.

Award winning journalist and co-anchor of CTV Morning Live, Keri Adams is back for the third time as master of ceremonies.
