  • Jujhar Singh Mann: A Sweet Journey of Passion and Pastry

" I always loved being in the kitchen. When I was a kid, I’d spend hours cooking with my mom or be glued to baking shows, dreaming of making something similar"- Jujhar Mann, Owner of Mann & Co Bakeshop

In the bustling heart of Surrey, British Columbia, Mann & Co Bakeshop has carved out its niche, blending South Asian flavors with North American comfort. At the forefront is Jujhar Singh Mann, a talented pastry chef whose journey from hobby baker to award-winning artisan is as inspiring as the desserts he creates.

Jujhar’s love for baking started early. “I’ve always loved being in the kitchen,” he says. “When I was a kid, I’d spend hours cooking with my mom or be glued to baking shows, dreaming of making something similar.” This passion eventually led him to step away from a traditional career path and into the world of pastry. What began as a way to unwind during his marketing studies at Simon Fraser University quickly transformed into a thriving business. “I started baking for fun, and before I knew it, people were reaching out for custom orders. That’s when I realized—this could be something bigger,” he recalls.

Mann & Co Bakeshop opened its doors in December 2022 and has since become a favorite for its unique fusion of flavors. Whether it’s their signature Cardamom Cake, luxurious Rose Kulfi Opera Cake, or vibrant Mango Lassi Cake, every dessert tells a story of cultural connection and innovation. Jujhar has also mastered the art of inclusivity by offering eggless and vegetarian options to cater to a diverse clientele. “Food is about bringing people together, and I want my desserts to reflect that,” he says.

Jujhar’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges, but he credits his family’s unwavering support for his success. “My parents saw how passionate I was and stood by me every step of the way,” he shares. “They even helped me get my first studio space, and that’s when things really took off.” With their encouragement, Jujhar pursued advanced training under world-renowned chefs Amaury Guichon and Chef Jean Michel MOF, experiences that elevated his craft to new heights. At just 25, Jujhar’s message to young minds remains simple: “Whatever your dream is, go for it. And if it’s your child’s dream, support them. You never know what magic can come out of it.”

His hard work has paid off in the form of national recognition. Jujhar first gained attention on Food Network Canada’s Great Chocolate Showdown and recently won Netflix’s Is It Cake? Holiday! “Being on these shows was a dream come true,” he says. “It’s one thing to bake in your kitchen, but competing on a global stage pushes you to another level.”

As much as he loves creating jaw-dropping desserts, Jujhar remains deeply connected to his roots. “I’m proud to bring South Asian flavors to the forefront in a modern, approachable way,” he says. His bakery’s menu is a testament to that pride, blending tradition with creativity to deliver desserts that are both nostalgic and surprising.

In the world of pastry, Jujhar Mann is proving that the best recipes mix heart, heritage, and a dash of daring. He’s turning dough into dreams, crafting desserts that aren’t just sweet—they’re inspiring. After all, who wouldn’t want a slice of that life?
