10 dead, 55 injured after bus plunges into Jammu gorge

Jammu, May 30 (IANS) At least 10 people were killed and 55 others injured on Tuesday after a bus plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu district, police said.
According to the police, the accident took place in the Jhajjar Kotli area after the driver lost control of the vehicle which was on its way to Katra town from Amritsar.
Confirming the toll to reporters, Jammu SSP Chandan Kohli said the "rescue operation is almost complete and an SDRF team is also present on the spot".
"The bus was carrying more passengers than the prescribed limit which will be probed during the investigation," he added.
Four critically injured passengers have been shifted to the Government Medical College, Jammu.
The affected girl students of Kasturba Gandhi College in West Maredpally, Secunderabad were hospitalised with complaints of breathlessness and dizziness. The college authorities denied that there was any gas leak from college lab. They said foul smell from garbage dump on the college boundary wall led to students falling ill.

The Shiromani Akali Dal on Friday asked the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab to list development works initiated by it as well as disclose capital assets created to justify the "unprecedented" borrowing of Rs 39,200 crore for nine months of the current fiscal with Rs 14,700 crore being borrowed for the third quarter.
