Jaipur, March 12 (IANS) In a major crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling, Bhadesar police in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district seized 196 boxes containing liquor, hidden inside a container transporting cartons of clothes. The consignment was being smuggled from Haryana to Gujarat, the police said on Wednesday.

Three accused, identified as Naseem Meo (23), Mohammad Saad (22), and Yayaha Meo (24) have been arrested.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudhir Joshi stated that strict instructions were issued to all police stations to take action against illegal liquor smuggling in the district.

Acting on these directives, a team led by ASP Sarita Singh, CO Bhadesar Anil Sharma, and Bhadesar SHO Dharmaraj Meena set up a blockade near Sukhwada Bridge on the Chittorgarh-Udaipur highway.

During the blockade, a suspicious container was intercepted.

Upon inspection, it appeared to be loaded with cartons of clothes. However, when the cartons were removed, 196 boxes of liquor were discovered hidden beneath.

The police immediately seized the illegal liquor and the container. SP Sudhir Joshi stated that a special operation was carried out at all police stations in the district and they were instructed to take strict action against illegal liquor smuggling.

Acting on intelligence input regarding liquor smuggling, a blockade was set up near Sukhwada Bridge on the Chittorgarh-Udaipur highway on Wednesday. Soon, a container was intercepted and searched. Initially, it appeared to be loaded with cartons of clothes.

The police seized the illicit liquor and the container, arresting the accused—Naseem Meo, Yayaha Meo, and Mohammad Saad Meo, said Joshi.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Constable Ratan Singh of Bhadesar police station played a crucial role in the operation.

Smuggling of illicit liquor remains one of the major challenges for the security agencies as well as the security personnel.

Miscreants mostly try to move and transport the consignment secretly by trying out various tactics to go undetected.

However, vigilance maintained by the security personnel mostly leads to seizure of illegal liquor, as well as the arrest of the accused individuals involved.
