Bengaluru, May 9 (IANS) At least 25 persons were injured, including four in critical condition, after a Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus hit a metro pillar in Bengaluru on Monday.
According to sources, the bus driver had lost balance trying to avoid a pothole on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway.
Police are looking at this angle.
The incident took place near Kengeri at 1 a.m. and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.
According to the police, the bus had first hit the 4-feet tall road divider and then rammed into the Namma Metro Pillar number 545.
The bus was travelling to Bengaluru from Madikeri. The damage to the metro pillar is being assessed.
Police said that a total of 45 persons were travelling in the bus.
If not for the Metro Pillar, the bus would have gone to another side of the highway and collided with a vehicle coming from the opposite side, which would have led to a greater tragedy, the police added
Lieutenant Colonel Harjinder Singh who died in the tragic helicopter crash along with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat and others, had been married to Prafulla from Karnataka. Prafulla is the native of Salmaru village near Karkala town in Udupi district. A pall of gloom descended on the family after the news of the tragedy broke out.
The force said that positive identification of only three mortal remains -- Gen Rawat, Madhulika Rawat and Brig L.S. Lidder -- has been possible as of now, and their mortal remains will be released to the next of kin for final rites as desired by the respective families.
Almost 15 months after the farmers' agitation began against the (now scrapped) farm laws and other issues, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmer unions that led the protest, said on Thursday that it has suspended the agaitation after receiving positive assurances from the government on their demands, adding that the borders of Delhi will be cleared by Saturday.
