25,886 government jobs given in just 10 months: Punjab CM

Chandigarh, Jan 16 (IANS) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday said his government has given 25,886 government jobs to the youth in just 10 months of its tenure.
In his remarks after handing over appointment letters to 271 specialist doctors, 90 lab technicians, and 17 helpers in the Health and Family Welfare Department here, he said this venue has witnessed a number of such events in which the youth have got jobs in government departments.
Mann said ever since assuming the charge of office, his government has handed over job letters to 25,886 youths in various departments. Such a whopping number of jobs in merely 10 months reflect the commitment of the state government to ensure the well being of youth and opening new avenues of employment for them, he said.
The Chief Minister reiterated the commitment of his government to emerge the state as a hub of healthcare across the globe. He said in a major push to the medical education in Punjab, the government has decided to construct 16 new medical colleges in five years that will enhance the total tally of medical colleges in the state to 25.
He said that on one hand, it will provide quality medical education to the students and on other, it will help in imparting world-class healthcare facilities to people.
Asserting that Aam Aadmi clinics have revolutionised the healthcare sector in the state, the Chief Minister said that more than 95 per cent of patients visiting these clinics daily recover from their ailments. He said ever since the starting of these clinics from August 15, 2022, they have witnessed a footfall of more than 10 lakh patients.
Mann said these clinics are acting as a cornerstone in the revamp of the healthcare system in Punjab.
Striking an emotional chord with doctors and healthcare workers, the Chief Minister recalled how his major surgery was performed by a doctor when he was five years of age.
He exhorted the doctors and healthcare workers to give a healing touch to the ailing patients, especially from underprivileged and weaker sections of society. Mann said that this is the real service of humanity which needs to be carried with missionary zeal.
Delhi Police had sought the custody of the arrested persons, which was granted by a duty magistrate on Tuesday. The four persons were arrested on Sunday night. Recently, a fresh case under the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) was lodged by the Delhi Police against the members of PFI, which was banned for five years by the Centre last week.
Punjab Police have arrested 5,824 drug smugglers, including 916 big fish, since July 5, Inspector General Sukhchain Singh Gill said here on Tuesday. He said 203 kg heroin was recovered. Additionally, 147.5 kg heroin was recovered by Punjab Police from seaports of Gujarat and Maharashtra, taking the total effective recovery of heroin to 350 kg in just three months.
Farmers under the aegis of Kisan Mazdur Sangarash Committee (KMSC) held protest and rail roko prorgramme at 17 different places in Punjab on Monday to mark the anniversary of Lakhimpur Kheri incident. It may be noted that 8 persons including four farmers had died during a protest in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3, 2021.
Announcing this on the floor of Assembly, he said the farmers will get the additional amount under State Agreed Price (SAP) of sugarcane as compared to the last year. With this decision, the state government will spend additional Rs 200 crore annually to benefit the farmers.
Accordingly, the police registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 307 (atttempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) at the Adarsh Nagar police station and during investigation, it was revealed that deceased had a quarrel with the five accused classmates in their school, due to which they murdered him to take revenge, while they were going home.
Moving a resolution to this regard, Mann said that the main function of the Punjab State Vigilance Commission is to enquire or cause enquires into complaints alleging commission of offences by a public servant under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
