Three Afghan men were arrested by customs officials at Delhi's airport for allegedly trying to smuggle gold valuing about Rs. 54 lakh into the country, according to an official statement on Friday.
The accused were arrested after their arrival from Dubai on Wednesday.
Customs officials found 13 gold biscuits and a gold bar from the men which in total weighed 1.6 kg.
The gold, worth Rs. 54.49 lakh, was seized, the statement said.
The couple was identified as Sreenivas Nakirekanti, 51, and his wife, Shanti Nakirekanti, 46 and the incident took place at Pendergrass Trail on Monday, KPRC-TV station reported.
The woman was shifted to the government hospital in Dera Baba Nanak town, 275 km from here. "She is being questioned," a police official said.
It will be published by HarperCollins India on April 12. The publisher said that Singh was 22 years old at that time.
