45-Year-Old NRI Woman Found Dead In Bathtub Of Luxury Hotel In Faridabad

IANS, 27 Apr, 2018 11:26 AM
A 45-year-old NRI woman was found dead in the bathtub of a luxury hotel in Faridabad on Thursday. Police said the deceased, identified as Ritu Kumar, lived with her husband in the US.

Police said Kumar had checked into Room No 631 of the hotel on April 22. A police team along with hotel employees opened her room and found her dead in the bathtub on Thursday.

Police said they reached the hotel after receiving a distress call from Kumar’s sister who had reached the hotel and found the room locked from inside.

According to the police, Kumar’s husband is a businessman who is settled in New Jersey. Sube Singh, Faridabad police spokesperson said, “The woman was staying in the hotel since April 22. On April 26 (Thursday) she had instructed the hotel staff, especially the reception desk, not to disturb her. She had asked them not to forward any calls to her room either.”

Police said that on Thursday, Kumar’s sister reached the hotel when she could not get in touch with her over the phone. “Around 8.30pm, our police team reached the hotel and opened the room. We found the woman lying motionless in the bathtub. Later she was pronounced dead,” said Kartar Singh, additional superintendent of police, Surajkund.

Police said Kumar was found to be wearing clothes which suggests she was not taking a bath at the time of her death. There were no blood stains near her body or in the tub.

Investigation so far has revealed that Kumar had married Arun Kumar Khanna, 46, a businessman in New Jersey on March 3, 2017. This was Kumar’s second marriage, while Khanna had married twice before, police said.

“She had been in India since July or August, last year. When in India, she would stay with her sisters or in the hotel,” the officer said, adding that her brother lives in south Delhi.

Police have contacted the woman’s husband. An investigator said Khanna did not suspect any foul play. Police have sent the body to the BK hospital for post-mortem, which will be done on Saturday.
