90-Year-Old Delhi Man Found Living With Wife's Decomposing Body

Darpan News Desk IANS, 12 Oct, 2016 12:40 PM
A 90-year-old man was found living with the body of his wife in South East Delhi's Kalkaji area, police said on Monday.

The matter came to light when Govind Ram's neighbours informed police last night of stench emanating from his house.

Police said the nonagenarian is "mentally unsound" and had been living with the body of his wife, Gopi, in their one-room flat in Kalkaji.

Ram was found lying on the bed and his wife's decomposed body was on the floor. It seems she died a few days ago, they said.

The flat was poorly maintained and the man was found in a neglected condition, an official said. He said an autopsy has been conducted on the body and ruled out any possibility of foul play.

The official said the exact cause of the death will be known after the post-mortem report is received.

Ram's distant relatives were informed and they took him to AIIMS, where he is undergoing treatment.

"Govind Ram told us his wife, who was bed-ridden for the last few years, fell down from the bed yesterday and did not get up. He is frail and undergoing treatment at AIIMS," DCP (Southeast) Romil Baaniya said.

The elderly worked as an office boy in an MNC and the couple was making ends meet with his pension.
