A magnitude 6.3 earthquake sends tremors to Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and New Delhi

  • A magnitude 6.3 earthquake sends tremors to Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and New Delhi

Things got really shaken up in India today as a 6.3 magnitude earthquake sent tremors that were felt in several parts of northern India including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and  New Delhi late Friday evening.

The epicentre of the quake was in Tajikistan and it took place at 10.40 pm. Lucily, there have been no reports of destruction or casualties though people rushed out of their homes as the tremors were followed by strong aftershocks.

Amarinder Singh, The Chief Minister of Punjab shared his thoughts regarding the quake over social media. 

The Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also took to Twitter later on sharing a vivid description of his experience.

According to media reports, tremors were also felt in Pakistan's capital Islamabad and major cities of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab provinces, and Pakistan occupied-Kashmir.

Pakistani Politician Maryam Nawaz Sharif also expressed her gratitude over Twitter that no one was harmed during this natural calamity. 

A recent magnitude 3.5 earthquake was recorded in Jammu and Kashmir on February 8.
