AAP promises to provide free school education in Punjab

Pathankot, Dec 2 (IANS) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced to provide high quality free education to the children of Punjab in government schools, if his party forms the government.
"Like Delhi, the AAP government will also provide the best and free government education in Punjab. The child of the rich and the poor will be treated equally and receive the same education. The development of Punjab and the country can be possible only if the children get the best and free education," he said here, adding 25 per cent of the government budget in Delhi is spent on education.
"As a result, education in government schools has improved and about 2.5 million more children have been enrolled in government schools, which used to be in private and expensive schools."
Addressing a public meeting, Kejriwal said 99.97 per cent students of government schools in Delhi have passed and the children who have passed from these schools have got admission in medical and engineering courses.
He said earlier in Delhi, the state of education in government schools was very bad which was fixed by the Aam Aadmi Party government.
Referring to the government education system in Punjab, Kejriwal said teachers in the state were unhappy as they were not regularized and were not paid a respectable salary.
Appealing to people to vote for AAP, Kejriwal said, after the formation of the government, it would be its responsibility to provide free and quality education to children.
"New schools will be built and old buildings will be renovated. Teachers will be given permanent jobs and will be paid a decent salary," he added.
The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Khalid, Shriram Chaurasia, Zishan Ahmad, Vikas Kesarwani and Krishna Kumar. Inspector (Kareli) Anupam Sharma said the arrested persons had sold SIM cards to law-breakers at high prices after creating fake IDs.
The ex-CM of Punjab recalled that Rawat himself had publicly stated after meeting him that he was satisfied by his government's track record on the 2017 poll promises.
It is learnt that Channi in his first meeting with the Prime Minister after becoming chief minister of Punjab requested that the Centre take back its decision to postpone paddy procurement by 10 days. The Centre has postponed the procurement of paddy by 10 days due to rain in Punjab and Haryana. Earlier the procurement was supposed to start from October 1 but now it will start from October 11.
Scotching speculation to the contrary, former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday made it clear he was not joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but had no intention of continuing in the Congress either, which he said was going downhill with senior leaders completely ignored and not given a voice.
The meeting lasted for over two hours and the issues raised by Sidhu will be put before the Cabinet on October 4, sources in the party said.After the meeting at Punjab Bhavan, where AICC observer Harish Chaudhary was also present, both Channi and Sidhu left the meeting venue without talking to the media.
Hundreds of environmental activists had marched from the ITO Metro station to Delhi Secretariat on September 24 to mark the 'Global Climate Strike' week and learn of the status of their list of demands presented to the Delhi government on March 19.
