AAP Rejects Molestation Allegation Against Its Lawmaker

IANS, 09 Jul, 2016 01:54 PM
AAP today rubbished the charges of molestation against its legislator Prakash Jarwal and said it was "impractical" to believe that the alleged incident occurred in presence of 300 people, including mediapersons.

"A woman is alleging that an MLA molested her in broad daylight in presence of around 300 people. It is totally impractical to believe it happened during an inauguration of a tanker at the DJB office in GK-1 where 250-300 people were present in the function. There were media personnel present. There are video recordings of the event," AAP's Delhi unit secretary Saurabh Bharadwaj said.

Mr Jarwal, the AAP's legislator from Deoli, has been booked for allegedly molesting the woman who had gone to lodge a complaint regarding water crisis, at the DJB office in south-east Delhi's Greater Kailash area, police said.

According to Mr Bharadwaj, the complainant said the incident took place on July 2, while the DJB function was held a day later.

The AAP leader claimed that law is being "misused" by political parties and this needs to be looked into.

"By misusing these sections (of law), political parties, they are doing a big harm to the women's movement which happened in this country at the time of 'Nirbhaya' case (Delhi gangrape). Today, we are the people who are suffering from it, tomorrow it could be your editors, reporters because it is very easy to frame a person, saying somebody molested someone else," Mr Bharadwaj said.

"Where are we taking this politics to. People who are really suffering from crimes like molestation will find it really difficult in coming times to get such cases registered," Mr Bharadwaj said.
