‘Achieved What I Desired’: 83-Year-Old Man From Punjab Gets Master's Degree In English

    A heartwarming story of an 83-year-old man completing his master’s in English has been doing the rounds on social media.

     

    Sohan Singh Gill, recently, received his degree along with a huge round of applause at the convocation held in Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar, Punjab.

     

    Gill, who lives in Hoshiarpur, completed his bachelor's degree in 1957 from Khalsa College, Mahilpur. However, he got married in 1958 and left for Kenya with his wife.

     

    Gill said that while working in Kenya, he also taught various subjects to children there. He returned to India in 1991.

     

     

    On the advice of his vice-principal, he wanted to do post-graduation in English.

     

    Two years ago, at the age of 81, Gill decided to join a long-distance education course and as a result completed his Master's in English.

     

    Gill said: "With my will power and God's Grace, I have finally achieved what I always desired. English has been my favourite language right from childhood. During my stay in Kenya, I got a chance to master it", according to India Today.

     

    "I knew all along that I will achieve it, so there was no doubt. I have been training IELTS students as well and all have earned good marks." Gill completed.

     

    Gill was born on August 15, 1937, and he studied in rural schools. Apart from the English language, he had an interest in sports, especially Hockey.
