Akali Candidate With Rs.239 Crore Is Richest In Delhi Polls

    Shiromani Akali Dal's Manjinder Singh Sirsa with assets worth Rs.239 crore is the richest among the 673 candidates in the fray for the Delhi assembly polls, a think-tank said Friday.
     
    The Shiromani Akali Dal is an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Sirsa is contesting the Feb 7 polls from Rajouri Garden assembly segment.
     
    Of the 673 contestants battling for 70 assembly seats, 230 are billionaires with the Congress topping the list with 59 candidates, said Delhi Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), analysing the affidavits submitted by the candidates to the election authorities. 
     
    The Congress is followed by the BJP with 50 and the Aam Aadmi Party with 44.
     
    There are 28 billionaire candidates from the Bahujan Samaj Party. Of the 195 Independents, 27 are billionaires.
     
    There are 62 candidates who own assets worth over Rs.10 crore.
     
    The average assets per candidate for the Delhi 2015 assembly elections are Rs.3.32 crore.
     
    The average assets per candidate for the Congress's 70 candidates are Rs.9.60 crore. For the BJP, it's Rs.7.96 crore, while for the AAP the average per candidate is Rs.5.89 crore.
