Akali Leader, Son Arrested After Assault On A Pregnant Nurse In Punjab's Moga

Darpan News Desk IANS, 24 Sep, 2016 03:43 PM
The husband and son of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal sarpanch or village chief have been booked for allegedly slapping and jostling a pregnant nurse at a private hospital in Moga district, an official said on Friday.

A case has been registered against sarpanch Daljit Kaur's husband Paramjit Singh and their son Gurjeet Singh. Daljit Kaur is the sarpanch of Alamwala village in the district.

Confirming the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Snehdeep Sharma told IANS that the accused have been booked.

The duo was booked after a video went viral on social media, showing them assaulting nurse Ramandeep Kaur, who eight weeks pregnant, at Gupta Hospital in Bagha Purana town

Paramjit Singh, who is also a local Akali leader, wanted the hospital staff to admit the patient without delay. The nurse asked them to wait for two minutes so that she could call the doctor. The duo, however, was reluctant to wait and soon started quarrelling with her. Paramjit slapped the nurse and when she resisted, he allegedly pushed her.

“The Akali leader wanted VIP treatment. He did not want to wait for the doctor to get his patient admitted at the hospital,” the nurse claimed. “The SAD leader’s son too hit me in front of my colleagues,” she alleged, adding the duo also used derogatory language against her.

Police have recorded the statement of the nurse and action would be taken against the accused, said SHO Gurmail Singh Sekhon. The entire incident was recorded in a CCTV camera installed inside the hospital.
