Arun Jaitley Admitted To AIIMS, Condition ‘Stable’; Pm Modi, Shah Pay Visit

Darpan News Desk IANS, 09 Aug, 2019 07:42 PM

Former finance minister Arun Jaitley was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Friday afternoon over some cardiac complications.

Jaitley, 66, is currently under observation at the institute’s cardiac-neuro unit. AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria is leading the panel of experts looking after Jaitley and monitoring his condition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah and Minister of State for Health Ashwani Choubey were at AIIMS to visit the former minister, who has been ailing for a while now.

Speaker OP Birla is also expected to make a visit at the hospital.

AIIMS released a statement in the evening saying Jaitley was in the Intensive Care Unit but was "haemodynamically stable".

"Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS today morning. He is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors. At present, he is haemodynamically stable”.

Jaitley’s admission to AIIMS comes just three days after former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj was brought to the institute in a critical condition following a heart attack.

    She could not be resuscitated.

A senior lawyer, Jaitley has been one of most Prime Minister Narendra Modi's most important ministers during his first tenure, and often acted as his government’s chief troubleshooter.

Jaitley, who did not contest the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, underwent a renal transplant on May 14 last year. His minister of state Piyush Goyal filled in for him at that time. Jaitley stopped attending office since early April 2018 and returned to work at the finance ministry on August 23, 2018.

He underwent bariatric surgery in September 2014 to correct the weight he gained because of a long-standing diabetic condition.
