Jaipur, March 11 (IANS) A Bangladeshi national who allegedly entered India illegally 10 years ago has been arrested by the Ajmer Police in Rajasthan, an official said on Tuesday.

The police are currently questioning the arrested individual.

Under a special operation, several Bangladeshis were arrested earlier as well. The fresh arrest has taken the total number of apprehended Bangladeshis so far to 18.

Dargah police station (Ajmer) in-charge, Dinesh Jeevani, said that the police headquarters had issued directives to identify and take action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and intruders. Following these instructions, a special task force was formed under the guidance of Ajmer SP Vandita Rana to conduct the crackdown.

During the operation, the task force searched the Dargah area and questioned suspected individuals.

One suspect failed to provide satisfactory answers during questioning, prompting the police to take action.

The suspect, identified as Mohammad Saroj a.k.a. Rippon (48), a resident of Dhaka, was subsequently arrested. Upon interrogation, Rippon admitted that he had entered India illegally by crossing the border nearly a decade ago.

Since then, he had been living in the Dargah area as a nomad. His interrogation is still ongoing.

Jeevani further confirmed that a total of 18 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested under this campaign so far, and the crackdown will continue in the future.

A special campaign has been launched in Ajmer to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi citizens and other intruders.

As part of an intensive crackdown, the police conducted raids in key areas and other suspected hideouts. Using intelligence inputs from informers and advanced technical surveillance, the team successfully apprehended multiple suspects.

During questioning, the arrested individuals admitted to illegally infiltrating India and residing as nomads in the Dargah area. So far, the police have arrested 17 illegal Bangladeshi nationals.

The latest detainees include Mohammad Rana, Sapna, Salma, Yasin Khan, Shakoor Ali, and Iman Sheikh, all hailing from different districts of Bangladesh.
