Body Of 8-Year-Old Found Floating In Flooded Ditch In Delhi

Darpan News Desk IANS, 25 Aug, 2016 01:02 PM
The body of an eight-year-old boy was found floating on Wednesday in a water-filled ditch on an empty plot of land in northeast Delhi's Seelampur area.

The boy, identified as Amit, was missing since Tuesday evening.

He was last seen flying kite in the plot along with other children before his body was found floating in the ditch around 11 am on Wednesday, police said.

"The locals alleged that the plot was a property of DDA but we are yet to verify ownership of the land," said a police officer.

A case has been been registered and the body has been sent for autopsy to determine whether the boy died due to drowning or some other reason, he said.

The plot, situated behind a petrol pump, was about 10 feet deep and was filled with drainage from the petrol pump, police said.

"DDA land are well marked and it could be verified by the police. We will find out whether the said plot belonged to us," said a DDA official.

The boy lived with his family including his father Vijay Ram, mother Shila Devi and two younger sisters, at Taj Market in Old Seelampur.
