CBI files chargesheet against two in Sonali Phogat murder case

Panaji, Nov 22 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh in connection with the murder case of Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat.
The CBI has filed the chargesheet before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Mapusa.
Sources said that the chargesheet has recommended section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code read with section 34 (common intention) and section 36 (death caused partly by act and partly by omission).
Phogat had come to Goa on August 22 and was staying at a hotel in Anjuna.
She felt uneasy that night and the next morning, she was taken to St. Anthony hospital in Anjuna where she was declared brought dead.
Goa Police on August 26, had arrested Sudhir Sangwan (Phogat's personal assistant) along with Sukwinder Singh in connection with her murder.
Police had said that methamphetamine drugs were allegedly given to Phogat while she was partying in Curlies restaurant in Anjuna.
On September 12, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had handed over the case to the CBI as the people of Haryana and her daughter had placed demands.
Later on, September 16, the central agency arrived in the coastal state to investigate the case.
In the run up to the assembly polls scheduled early next year, the BJP Punjab unit has launched several campaigns to strengthen its organisational structure at ground level. Sharma said that work is progressing at good pace for formation of a 21-member committee at each polling booth.
According to Sidhu, the department has issued sanctions under five phases for purchasing the straw management machines with subsidies ranging from 50 to 80 per cent.
On Tuesday, the Delhi Police had said that they have busted a Pakistan-based terror module and arrested six persons, including two people -- Zeeshan and Javed -- who were trained in Pakistan.
According to the police, the accused, Raju Chaudhary, who was arrested from Jammu has revealed during the interrogation that Wazir was shot dead on September 3 and four more people were present at the time of the incident. A police official informed that former NC leader, Wazir, was also given sedatives before being killed.
Farmers said the UPPCL sent arbitrary electricity bills and if the farmers failed to pay, they are harassed unnecessarily. The farmers locked the door of the power discom office at Noida's sector 16 and continued their protest outside.
Two Pakistan-based men, including a Pakistani intelligence officer, have also been identified and booked in the case, in which one person was arrested earlier, DGP Dinkar Gupta disclosed on Wednesday.
