CBI files chargesheet against two in Sonali Phogat murder case

Panaji, Nov 22 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh in connection with the murder case of Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat.
The CBI has filed the chargesheet before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Mapusa.
Sources said that the chargesheet has recommended section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code read with section 34 (common intention) and section 36 (death caused partly by act and partly by omission).
Phogat had come to Goa on August 22 and was staying at a hotel in Anjuna.
She felt uneasy that night and the next morning, she was taken to St. Anthony hospital in Anjuna where she was declared brought dead.
Goa Police on August 26, had arrested Sudhir Sangwan (Phogat's personal assistant) along with Sukwinder Singh in connection with her murder.
Police had said that methamphetamine drugs were allegedly given to Phogat while she was partying in Curlies restaurant in Anjuna.
On September 12, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had handed over the case to the CBI as the people of Haryana and her daughter had placed demands.
Later on, September 16, the central agency arrived in the coastal state to investigate the case.
In a massive show of strength, the party's two Chief Ministers -- Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi and Bhagwant Mann of Punjab -- held a roadshow with the former pleading with the public saying, "AAP will uproot corruption from Himachal Pradesh too, if it comes to power".
The official said that the trio had violated provisions of section 8 of the NDPS act, and had committed offence punishable under section 21, section 23 and section 29 of NDPS act.
Emphasising the need of immediate direct air link between Chandigarh and London, Mann apprised Rowett that the Chandigarh International Airport caters to the growing demand of the people of neighbouring states of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Chandigarh.
The family members of the farmers, mowed down by a car belonging to Mishra, in Lakhimpur Kheri had moved the top court challenging bail granted to him. He is the son of Union Minister and BJP MP Ajay Kumar Mishra. The victims' families have claimed that the state has not filed an appeal opposing bail granted to Mishra.
In recognition of the best performance of Divisional Commissioners, DCs, SSPs, SDMs and other field officials, Mann also announced such officers or officials will be honoured with the 'Best Performing Award' to further motivate them to serve the people with missionary zeal.
Cheema said the target to increase the sugarcane yield by at least 100 quintals per acre in the next two years has been set, which would further increase the income per acre around Rs 36,000.
