CBI Traces Missing Delhi Woman After Five Years

IANS, 17 Jul, 2017 11:41 AM
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has traced a 30-year-old "mentally challenged" Delhi woman who went missing from the national capital in 2012, an official said on Monday.

The woman was found in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly on Sunday evening and is being taken back to Delhi. She had been missing since May 23, 2012.

"Strenuous efforts were made to trace the woman at various locations in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. She was finally located at Bareilly. She was under observation of an NGO," CBI spokesperson R.K. Gaur told IANS, adding she would be produced before the Delhi High court on Tuesday.

Gaur said that the CBI investigators were yet to connect the links on how the woman went missing from Delhi and reached Bareilly.

Asked about the woman's profile, the official said: "She seems to be mentally challenged. Further inquiry in the case is on."

The CBI took over the case and registered an FIR following a Delhi High Court order on February 26, 2014 after a habeas corpus petition was filed by the father of the woman.

The case had been originally registered at Pul Prahladpur Police Station in south Delhi. Besides taking all other necessary steps to trace the missing woman, a reward of Rs 5 lakh was also announced, the CBI official said.
