Chandigarh Police Issue Rs 10,000 Challan To Senior Punjab Police Cop For Violating Traffic Rules

Darpan News Desk IANS, 06 Sep, 2019 08:11 PM

It’s probably the first challan issued to a cop after the implementation of the amended Motor Vehicles (MV) Act.

The incident was caught on camera by several users and shared on Twitter. In the clip, the cop can be seen riding a white Activa scooter and talking on the phone, near Matka Chowk.

The user, who posted the video, also tagged SSP (Traffic) Shashank Anand.

The UT traffic police issued a Traffic Violation Information Slip (TVIS) to the police personnel.

According to the amended MV Act, the cop will have to cough up Rs 10,000, double the penalty, as it is a case of a cop violating the traffic norms.

The revised MV Act came into effect from September 1. The fine for using a mobile phone while driving was raised from Rs 1,000 to Rs, 5000.
