  • Delhi Government To Set Up Chair For Punjabi At JNU
The Delhi government will set up a Chair at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to promote research work in Punjabi language, Delhi Culture and Languages Minister Kapil Mishra announced on Monday.

"To boost prominence of Punjabi language and culture, we have decided to set up a 'Punjabi Chair' at JNU. This will facilitate scholars to carry out their researches in Punjabi language and promote Punjabi literature," Mishra told reporters.

He said that there was a long pending demand to set up any such institution for promoting Punjabi literature and language at the JNU.

"A discussion in this connection had been going on between the Delhi government and the JNU for last four to five years. So now this decision has finally been taken," Mishra said.

He said a panel would be constituted to look after the "Punjabi Chair" and promote the research works in Punjabi language.

"The university will set up the institution in three to four months. Every year, the Delhi government will give around Rs 50 lakh to the university for the Chair," Mishra added.
