Drugs Took His Life: 23-Year-Old Moga Kabaddi Player Charan Singh Succumbs At PGI

    A 24-year-old youth, who was a reputed kabaddi player of the area, allegedly died due to drugs at Burj Hamira village in Moga district.
     
     
    Son of an ex-Army man, Charan Singh entered into the company of drug addicts while playing kabaddi, his family members told mediapersons on Sunday.
     
     
    His father Darshan Singh said he got his son admitted to a drug de-addiction centre at Ganganagar in Rajasthan about 6 months ago, adding that he got him back a few days ago “Some village youths took him for an outing a few days ago. When he came back, he was vomiting,” a family member said.
     
     
    Darshan said they rushed Charan to a hospital in Bathinda from where he was referred to the DMC Hospital in Ludhiana. Later, he was taken to the PGI at Chandigarh where he died on Saturday.
     
     
    The police have conducted a post-mortem examination. The doctors took viscera samples, which will be sent for chemical examination.
     
     
    Though the police have begun preliminary inquiries into the incident, senior police officials are tight-lipped. However, the victim’s father and Malkit Singh, village sarpanch, claimed that he died due to drugs.
