Elderly Couple Robbed By Duo Posing As Cops In Delhi

Darpan News Desk IANS, 27 Aug, 2016 12:54 PM
An elderly couple was allegedly robbed off their valuables by two men who posed as crime branch officers, in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar area, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred when ML Bansal (73) and his wife Krishna (64), residents of Rajouri Garden in West Delhi, had gone to attend a funeral of a relative in Ashok Vihar on Thursday, they said.

"When my parents got off the cab on Montfort Road, they were accosted by two men who claimed to be officers from the crime branch. They showed them a fake ID card and said that they should keep their valuables in their pockets since the area is on a high alert owing to incidents of snatchings," Anurag Bansal, the son of the couple, said.

He said the duo offered to wrap his mother's gold bangles and a chain in a packet and immediately put it inside his father's pant pocket.

"My parents didn't realise when they swapped the packets and disappeared. When my father opened the packet, he saw that there were artificial ornaments," Mr Anurag said, adding, "The loss must have been close to Rs. 2 lakh."

An FIR has been registered and probe is underway, said a senior police officer.
