'Fearing Encounter', Gangster Ravi Deol Surrenders In Sangrur Court

IANS, 30 Jan, 2018 01:08 PM

Notorious gangster Ravi Deol, wanted in seven criminal cases, including the drugs scam, surrendered in a court here on Tuesday.

He is a key link in the Jagdish Bhola drug racket. In 2013, police had found 5 kg ICE and 90 kg of pseudoephedrine, a banned performance-enhancing substance used by sportspersons, from Deol’s house.

The local court sent Deol in police remand till February 3 in a case, registered at Sangrur City police station.

Known in his native town Sangrur for his ostentatious lifestyle, Deol also faces charges of assault. He had recently uploaded a video on YouTube accusing Punjab Police of framing him in a false case and claiming that he and his brother-in-law Ram Singh were innocent.

He was absconding till now and was sent to Sangrur jail after he surrendered. The Sangrur police were caught napping as they were unaware of Deol’s plan to surrender in court.

Sources in police said they would procure his police remand in day or two.

SSP Mandeep Sidhu said Ravi was sent to Sangrur jail after he surrendered. “We will procure his police remand as he faces seven different cases,” he added. Deol was a close friend of boxer Vijender Singh before his name cropped up in the drug racket case. Since Deol was a boxer, Vijender had visited his house at Patiala Gate in Dashmesh Nagar of Sangrur town.

His song ‘Sada ni kasur, sada zila Sangrur’ had made him popular in Punjab. He had also released three Punjabi albums. After taking to crime, Ravi did not stay at Sangrur and shifted base to Patiala, Chandigarh, New Delhi and finally Mumbai.

When his name figured in the drug case, he was working on a video of his latest Punjabi album. He had undergone special music training in Chandigarh for six months.
