A separatist guerrilla was killed in a gunfight Tuesday with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, a police official said. The exchange of fire was still on in the area.

"One militant was killed in Wanderbala forest area in Kupwara district in a gunfight with the security forces today (Tuesday)," the official told IANS here.

Police and troops of Rashtriya Rifles surrounded the Wanderbala forest area early Tuesday following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of a group of militants there, he said.

"When the security forces tightened the cordon, they were fired upon by the hiding militants triggering the gunfight," the official said, adding one militant was killed in the gun-battle which was still going on in the area.
