Hazare writes to Modi over Lokpal, Lokayuktas

Darpan News Desk IANS, 28 Aug, 2014 09:58 AM
Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate steps for the appointment of Lokpal and Lokayuktas.

In a letter to Modi in Hindi, he said: "Today (Aug 28), three years have been completed of my hunger strike but the Lokpal and Lokayukta could not be appointed so far."

"The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill-2013 was passed in the parliament in December, 2013 and also received the assent from the president but no appointment took place despite the passage of eight months," he said.

After getting parliament's approval, the bill had received assent from President Pranab Mukherjee Jan 1, 2014 and came into force from Jan 16, 2014.

Besides, Hazare praised Modi for his Independence Day speech. "I welcome your dedication for fighting against the corruption mentioned in your speech," he wrote.
