I Sent NSA Ajit Doval To Riot Hit Areas: Amit Shah

Darpan News Desk, 11 Mar, 2020 08:13 PM

Amid Opposition's charge of not visiting the riot-hit areas in northeast Delhi in the last week of February, Union Home MInister Amit Shah said on Wednesday that it was he who had asked National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval to visit the violence-hit hit areas.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha on the discussion over Delhi riots, Shah said, "I am saying this on record that I had requested the NSA to visit the riot-hit areas. I had called him and asked him to visit the riot-hit areas to contain the situation and win the trust of the people."

The NSA had visited the riot-hit areas of Jafrabad and Maujpur in northeast Delhi where he interacted with the locals on the streets.

Shah was responding to the Opposition's charge accusing him of not visiting the riot- hit areas on February 24 and 25.

Shah said that as US President Donald Trump was set to visit his parliamentary constituency on February 24, his visit to Ahmedabad was pre-scheduled.

"But in Delhi, I did not attend any of the functions and sat with the police to look after the situation," he said.

Refuting the Opposition's charge, Shah said that he did not visit the areas as it would have diverted the resources of the Delhi Police towards his security arrangements.
