India, UK to sign agreement on urban transport

Darpan News Desk IANS, 28 Nov, 2017 11:17 AM
India and the United Kingdom will soon sign an agreement in the urban transport sector for cooperation in policy planning, technology transfer and institutional organisation, the government announced on Tuesday.

The agreement would enable the sharing of expertise and latest technology to promote efficient mobility solutions, a Transport Ministry statement said.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari met UK's Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling in London on Monday and discussed a draft MoU, it said.

"The draft MoU is expected to usher in policy reforms that can transform the transport sector through improved customer service, data analysis and better use of IT systems."

The MoU would also help in promoting digital transactions and induction of high-capacity diesel and electric vehicles in India.

The decision to sign the MoU follows from Gadkari's last visit to London in May when he finalised arrangements with Transport for London (TFL) to cover a range of transport mobility solutions and associated activities in urban environment.
