Indian Origin Man Anuj Sud In US Indicted For Bribery

    An Indian origin man in the US has been indicted on charges of soliciting and accepting bribes while serving as a government employee.
     
    The charges against Anuj Sud, a former Prince George's County Liquor Board Commissioner, were announced by federal authorities and police earlier this week, Hyattsville Patch news portal reported on Thursday. 
     
    Sud is charged with two counts of bribery, for each of which he faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.
     
    Prosecutors said Sud solicited bribes from a lobbyist in exchange for assistance with liquor board matters in September 2015. He has also been a licensed attorney in Maryland since 2005 with offices in College Park.
     
    The officials said that Sud and the lobbyist discussed the commissioner voting favourably in two hearings for the lobbyist's clients in exchange for money in December 2015. 
     
    After each hearing, the lobbyist gave Sud $1,000 in cash, the report said.
     
    In addition, Sud allegedly received a $1,000 bribe in November for again acting favourably on behalf of the lobbyist's client.
