Jet Airways Fires Two Pilots Involved In Mid-Air Brawl

IANS, 09 Jan, 2018 01:14 PM
Days after two Jet Airways senior commanders fought inside the cockpit, the airline on Tuesday terminated their services as per laid down procedure since their conduct was against the safety rules of the carrier.

The flight’s co-pilot, Captain D. Balaraman, allegedly slapped the officiating pilot of flight 9W-119 from London to Mumbai when the flight was mid-air on January 1.

Following the assault, the sobbing pilot left the cockpit, only to return and then come out sobbing a second time.

It is then that the co-pilot is said to have walked out to request her to return, leaving the cockpit unmanned. A complaint was made by the cabin crew in-charge to the airline.

Jet Airways had then termed this a “misunderstanding that had occurred between the cockpit crew” and that it was “resolved amicably” and “quickly.”

On Tuesday, the airline issued a statement, which read: “Consequent to the review of the events on board flight 9W 119, London-Mumbai of January 1, Jet Airways has terminated the services of both cockpit crew with immediate effect.”
