Justice Markandey Katju Charged With Sedition For Bihar-Kashmir Quip

  • Justice Markandey Katju Charged With Sedition For Bihar-Kashmir Quip
As the row over his remarks on Bihar raged on, former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju has been charged with sedition following a complaint by a Janta Dal (United) legislator.

Another complaint was also filed today in the district court against Justice Katju, who hit back at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his critical remarks and churned out more taunting posts.

Justice Katju has been booked under 124-A (sedition), according to police official Birendra Pratap.

Over the weekend, Justice Katju used Facebook to share his opinion about the aggravated tension between India and Pakistan over the recent violence and unrest in Kashmir, described by Pakistan as "a freedom movement."

Justice Katju's comments on Facebook about Bihar have drawn sharp criticism.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had ridiculed him for trying to become 'Mai-Baap' (guardian) of the state. His comments had also invited the wrath of Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and JD(U) leaders KC Tyagi and Shyam Rajak among others.

Though Justice Katju had sought to backtrack yesterday after a barrage of protests by writing on his Facebook account "I was only joking about Bihar" but today he again continued with his jibes on the social media.

"I suggest Biharis should take their complaint against me to the UN," he said in his latest post on Facebook.
