LeT module busted in Srinagar, two arrested

Darpan News Desk IANS, 31 Oct, 2014 08:27 AM
A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit module in Srinagar has been busted and two people arrested, police said Friday.

"Srinagar city police busted a LeT sleeper cell that was planning to carry out subversive activities in the city. Two militants have been arrested so far and large cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from them," a police statement said.

It said the city police received a specific input regarding the activities of the sleeper cell of LeT outfit active in Nowgam-Chanpora areas.

"This sleeper cell was specifically tasked to carry out subversive activities in and around Srinagar city in the coming days.

"The activities of the main characters of the sleeper cell were meticulously monitored that lead to the arrest of two militants including a driver of a private school Mohammad Irfan Haroon resident of Tawheed Colony, Natipora and Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, resident of Haja Mohalla, Natipora.

"Police have recovered three AK 47 rifles, 14 pistols and two wireless sets from them," the statement said.

In security parlance, a "militant sleeper cell" means a group of subversives lying low to strike when instructed to do so with the advantage of surprise since they remain non-operational and away from the security radar before they carry out deadly attacks.

Narendra Modi: Worrying Signs Of A One-Man Show
What has been feared about Narendra Modi is proving to be true. The rough-and-ready manner in which he has been imposing his writ on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may refurbish his image of being a "strong" leader, but it also highlights his Gujarat "model" of authoritarian governance, which may be a cause of concern both inside and outside the BJP.
