Little boy killed after TV falls on him at home

Darpan News Desk, 06 Mar, 2015 05:34 AM

DUCK LAKE, Sask. — A three-year-old boy has died after a TV fell on top of him at a home on a Saskatchewan reserve.

Paramedics were called to a residence on the Beardy's Okemasis First Nation, north of Saskatoon, earlier this week.

Chief Rick Gamble says the boy was climbing and he fell and the TV fell on top of him.

Gamble says the parents and the community are taking the boy's death very hard.

The community planned to hold a pipe ceremony and a candlelight vigil Thursday night.

It also plans to hold a feast over the weekend.

Six residents of the First Nation have died in just under two weeks.

The chief says all but the boy's death were the result of natural causes.

"The little guy apparently loved to climb, and that's what the grandmother was telling us at the office the other day," Gamble said.

The chief said the parents should not be held responsible.

"The parents are very responsible people. One of them works for us, and they have always been very good, open-minded parents and supportive so they are taking it very, very hard and so is the community," said Gamble.
