Man killed, nine injured in Maharashtra train accident

    A man was killed and nine others were injured when five coaches of a suburban train derailed near Titwala in Thane district here Thursday, officials said.
     
    Five bogies of the Kasara-CST local train derailed between Titwala and Ambivali stations.
     
    The dead man was identified as 25-year-old Dhawal M. Lodha, said an official of the Central Railway headquarters at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
     
    The incident - which occurred around 2.50 p.m. - disrupted train services on the Central Railway's suburban section for over two hours.
     
    The Central Railway later started shuttle services between Titwala and Kasara and also from Thane to CST to clear the rush of evening peak hour commuters.
     
    An ex-gratia amount of Rs.50,000 has been announced for the family of the dead man, while five seriously injured, including the train's guard, will be given Rs.15,000 each and four others who sustained minor injuries will be given Rs.5,000 each.
