New Delhi, June 27 (IANS) A Special CBI court in Ahmedabad has sentenced Akhtar Hussain Basir Ahmed to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000 in a case related to a conspiracy regarding the recovery of weapons and explosives.

The CBI had registered the case on October 29, 2001, based on the recovery of a huge cache of weapons and explosives from a truck in Santhalpur, Patan (Gujarat).
 
During investigation, four persons were arrested, charged and convicted. The investigation also revealed the involvement of Aftab Ansari in the smuggling of these arms and ammunition.
 
Aftab Ansari was convicted in July 2018.
 
Basir Ahmed was absconding during the investigation, but surrendered before the court in 2012 and was subsequently sent to judicial custody. After the investigation, a supplementary charge sheet was filed against Basir Ahmed.
 
The trial court found Basir Ahmed guilty and convicted him.
